First Holy Communion

On Sunday, the Our Lady of Lourdes School students and Our Lady of Lourdes Faith Formation students received their First Holy Communion at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at a special mass for them and their families. This day is a holy and special day as the child is welcomed to the table of the Lord.

This day is a cause for celebration with families, grandparents, godparents and loved ones joining together for mass. It is a significant and memorable day and may cause you to reflect on your First Holy Communion.  First Communion is one of three Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism and Confirmation) which complete an individual’s membership to the Catholic Church. What do you remember from your First Holy Communion?

While the first holy communion is extra special, each time we receive holy communion we are nourished by Jesus. When leaving Mass, we are to share the love God with all those around us. Today, we celebrate again as our second graders receive their second holy communion.

As adults, there are several opportunities for renewing our excitement from our First Holy Communion.

  • National Eucharistic Renewal which is being held in Indianapolis this summer.
  • Four Eucharistic pilgrimage routes are planned for this summer. The northern, Marian route, will go through the Diocese of Green Bay. Each day of the pilgrimage will include mass, reflection and adoration at a different site. Interested in learning more about this pilgrimage route, visit this website link.

Pope Francis encourages us to spend more time with God and the Eucharist, “I encourage you to continue your efforts to contribute to a revival of faith in, and love for, the Holy Eucharist.” ~ Pope Francis
