Teacher In-Service – January 15

We hope you enjoyed the long weekend with family due to the teacher in-service that was held on Monday, January 15.

Did you ever wonder what occurs on a Teacher In-Service day? On Monday, January 15, all GRACE faculty and staff gathered at St. Bernard School. As all good things begin with prayer, we joined together for mass with Fr. Bob Kabat from St. Matthew Catholic Church. Together, we had the opportunity to learn from Sister Pat McCormack on the ABCs of Gospel-Driven Discipline. We hope you had an opportunity to join Sister Pat for the parent presentation that was held on Monday night at the St. Francis Xavier Cathedral.

The remainder of the day included a variety of sessions for teachers to choose from based on their interest, grade level or subject material. Here is just a sampling of the sessions that were offered.

  • Using STAR data for differentiation with NearPod
  • Integrating Faith in your Health Class
  • The Brain Architecture
  • GMAIL organization: Hints and Tips
  • Technology integration ideas for teaching with your TV or Interactive boards
  • BrightArrow for Teachers
  • Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
  • Enhance the classroom from the student perspective
  • Growth Mindset: Empowering Student Learning
  • Keeping Schools Safe
  • 3D Printing: Connecting to the curriculum
  • and more!

These in-service days not only provide us learning opportunities, but allows our teachers to meet and learn from each other as they share their ideas and successes.

The next scheduled teacher in-service day will be Friday, February 9.

Free Parent Event Featuring International Speaker

Please join us for an engaging and informative presentation on “Raising Resilient and Self-Reliant Children” with International Formation and Education Consultant, Sister Pat McCormack, IHM, EDD.

A self-reliant, resilient character is the by-product of daily life practices that nurture security, autonomy, initiative, and industry. When parents apply these practices with consistency, repetition, and continuity, positive identity formation takes root in the child. Over time resilience, self-reliance, and positive self-esteem evolve as byproducts.

This presentation will “unpack” these elements and communicate practical advice, gathered from parents of children in grades K-12 who were recognized for positive self-esteem and character.

This adult event is free of charge and will take place on Monday, January 15, at 6 p.m. at the St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in the Cathedral Center. The Center is located in the main Church building. Parking in the lot will be available. When you enter, please proceed up the stairs or elevator and the center is straight across. Wine and cheese will be served. All are welcome!

Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas and wishing you many blessings in 2024!

As we return from our Christmas break we have so much to be grateful for, as we continue to celebrate the 12 Days of Christmas. The celebration of Christ’s birth, the Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, the solemnity of the Holy Mother of God and the Epiphany of the Lord on Sunday. May we continue to share the joy and love with those we encounter throughout our days.

As we begin 2024, Pope Francis encourages us to bring Mary’s gratitude and hope into the new year “And what better teacher could we have than our holy Mother?” He shared, “Let us learn from her to live every day, every moment, every occupation with our inner gaze turned to Jesus.”
