As we reflect on the past year, we are proud to share that all our 8th grade students 'passed' the Spanish Exit Exam. This exam is an assessment of a student's overall proficiency in various contexts including the ability to understand and use the Spanish language.
The minimum score to pass the Spanish exam is 107.
The maximum score for the Spanish exam is 139.
The average score for this year's 8th grade students was 127.1.
Congratulations to our Class of 2025 8th graders and thank you to Señor Roman and Señora Eggart who provided these students the Spanish instruction beginning in kindergarten through eighth grade. Our kindergarten students have 30-60 minutes of instruction per week and increases to 160+ minutes per week of Spanish instruction when they are in 8th grade.
Why do the 8th graders take a Spanish Exit Exam? It provides students and their high school counselors information regarding placement into area high school Spanish programs. If a student can enroll in Spanish II or Spanish III as a freshman, they will be able to complete the high school Spanish courses prior to their high school graduation. In addition, it allows the high school students to have 'room' in their high school schedule for Advanced Placement (AP) or college courses (i.e. UWGB, NWTC, etc) while in high school. These advanced high school courses are typically less expensive than college credits and can advance the student upon enrollment in college, saving time and money!
In addition to the academic benefits, the students also learn about the culture and association of their Catholic faith with the Spanish culture. We all believe “The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.”
