As we enter the last month of school, our first graders are sharing their enthusiasm in reading with one another.
While they are reading for enjoyment, they are learning and building their comprehension. In addition to reading, their group discussions help them deepen their understanding while they relate the new information they have learned to what they already know.
Recently, the books they read were for facts and information needed to assist them in their writing. What can they learn about the animal from their reading? They were interested in the animal's appearance, habitat, food, family and interesting facts.
Most importantly, they are learning the importance of the source of the information (i.e. citing their sources).
Great job to our first grade readers and writers!
