Students have prayer service

All Souls’ Day: Day of the Dead (el Día de los Muertos)

We invite our families, parishioners and guests to join us for an All Souls’ Day mass on November 2 at 9:30AM at our parish cemetery, Mount Calvary Cemetery on W. Main Ave, De Pere with Fr. Jim Baraniak, O.Praem and students in grades 5-8. The Day of the Dead, in Spanish is known as el Día de los Muertos.

The All Souls Mass “Day of the Dead” is a celebration to honor the souls of our loved ones who have passed away to eternal life.

The students faces will be painted as colorful skulls as a way of internalizing mortality and celebrating death. It represents the happiness of life after death.

The 8th Graders will give flowers to parishioners as they arrive at the cemetery and after mass will place flowers on the graves of those buried there.

At Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church narthex (gathering space) an altar will be setup to to display ofrendas, which are favorite things that the loved ones liked when they were alive. All of these are symbols and reminders of the joy and happiness that we feel for our loved ones who have passed away. All are welcome to bring an a picture of a loved one who has passed away to be displayed on the altar for the month of November.

An All Souls Day evening mass is also being held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on November 2 at 6:30PM.
